Orthopedic disorders we commonly treat with Physical Therapy:
Orthopedic injuries are injuries that involve trauma to a bone or trauma to soft tissue. People with these types of injuries often experience limited mobility due to weakness or pain as well as limited range of motion. National Physical Therapy can diagnose, manage, and treat orthopedic disorders and injuries of the musculoskeletal system as well as rehabilitate patients post orthopedic surgery.
- Degenerative Joint Disease - Degenerative joint disease, most commonly known as osteoarthritis, is a painful degenerative condition that results in the deterioration of cartilage tissues that support the weight-bearing joints in the body. Once the cartilage is thinned or lost, the constant grinding of bones against each other causes pain and stiffness around the joint. Physical therapy has been shown to reduce pain and stiffness and helps build or maintain muscle tone, which is necessary for joint stability.
- Fractures - A bone fracture is a break in a bone. The severity of fractures increase with age as bone density decreases.
- Hip Disorders - There are many types of hip disorders including fractures, osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, and bone tumors. Patients with these types of hip disorders experience pain localized to the groin and anterior and they usually have limitation and/or pain on motion of the affected hip. With certain hip disorders, our physical therapists may suggest specific exercises to strengthen muscles which you may be trying to avoid using. A good therapy program will improve your gait and help you to walk more comfortably.
- Knee Disorders - There are many types of knee disorders including Osteoarthritis, Rheumatoid Arthritis, Ligament tears, Meniscus tears, and fractures. Patients with these types of knee disorders experience pain, stiffness, as well as other symptoms. Our skilled physical therapists can help relieve pain and restore or maintain your optimal physical functioning.
Our staff have years of clinical experience treating a variety of orthopedic conditions. Each patient receives a comprehensive evaluation on their first visit as well as an individualized treatment program with clearly defined objectives and goals. We also take the necessary time to educate our patients to promote understanding, compliance and the best possible results in the recovery process.
